BIOGRAPHY
Claudia Molitor is a composer who is gaining national recognition. She was born in Germany in 1974 and studied Music and Media at Sussex University, went on to do an MA in Music at City University and completed her PhD in Composition with Michael Finnissy in 2004.
In 2006, Oh Du Kleines Kabinett, commissioned by Queens' College Cambridge, was premiered by Anton Lukoszevieze and musicians of Queens' college and was subsequently shortlisted for the RPS 2007 Music Awards.
Her piano piece, Tango, was short-listed by spnm in 2004-5 and was performed by Rolf Hind at the new music festival fuseleeds06.
Other performances in 2006 included the accordionist Frode Haltli performing Even if the world is infinitely complex as part of spnm's HINDSIGHT series at Wapping Hydraulic Power Station in London during April 2006. In May 2006, Who kissed my head?, for live electronics and acoustic instruments, was performed by players from the London Sinfonietta in collaboration with Sound Intermedia. That year she was commissioned by CoMA and took part in spnm's Adopt a Composer scheme with the City of Southampton Orchestra.
Performances in 2007 included It descends occasionally, Kürbis and For Leone performed by the Kürbis ensemble in London and Cambridge's Kettle's Yard; performances of Leek in London and Manchester by the BackBeat Percussion Quartet, which was also broadcast on BBC 3's Here & Now. Das Schwein, das Schwein performed by EXAUDI was also broadcast on this programme. Later that year Untitled [fizzy painting makes me happy] for Apartment House was performed by the ensemble during Wien Modern in Vienna, Austria, and lorem ipsum for the vocal ensemble EXAUDI was performed by them at the VI Festival de Musica Contemporania de Girona in Spain and at Ecat in Edinburgh.
So far this year a soundscape for Wrestle, a film by Brian McClave, Gavin Peacock and Tom Wichelow, commissioned as part of the Place, Space & Identity series run by the Arts Council England was shown at the Bethesda Chapel, Hanley and Pink beads pop was performed by Apartment House in Cologne in a live broadcast concert for the West Deutsche Rundfunk.
She is also the Festival Director of Soundwaves Festival which she founded together with Patrick Harrex.
